If lifestyle changes are not enough to control blood pressure, your doctor will prescribe medication to lower blood pressure. Commonly used medications include diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
Preventing High Blood Pressure
Prevention is always better than cure. To prevent high blood pressure, maintain a healthy lifestyle including: a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains; regular exercise; maintaining a healthy weight; limiting alcohol consumption and quitting smoking; managing stress.
